This Remington-Hepburn No. 3 Match B Quality Single Shot Target Rifle is one of less than 1,000 estimated rifles (included both A and B Quality rifles) manufactured from 1883 to 1907. These scarce rifles were manufactured for fine target shooting in short and mid-range matches. Counterintuitively, the "B Quality" was a finer rifle than the "A Quality", coming standard with full matching checkered fancy select grain walnut, a special order feature on other Hepburns. This rifle has a heavy target weight barrel with a German silver Rocky Mountain blade front sight and a semi-buckhorn rear sight with the top flat marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION N.Y." and the underside is marked "38" and "VW SS". The rifle is also equipped with a folding short range tang sight. Matching numbers are found on the barrel, forearm and lower tang. Mounted with a checkered forearm and pistol grip stock, with nickel Schnabel tip, right handed cheekpiece and a nickel finished Swiss buttplate.
