Manufacturer: Knight's Armament Co Model: 63A
This is an extremely rare and seldom encountered Knight Armaments Company manufactured, Stoner designed model 63A, fully automatic, light weight NFA Machine Gun. This is a fully transferable, Pre-1986 manufactured machine gun and it is estimated that less than 100 total were manufactured by KAC, with only a handful of them ever release for sale to the collecting community. The original Stoner 63 weapon system/concept was developed by Eugene Stoner in the early 1960s, who was the same engineer who developed the original AR15/M16 rifles. His idea was that with a basic receiver group/weapon platform, you could reconfigured that weapon into a number of different configurations based on the mission needs or area of operation, using only a minimum of different components. This proved to be an excellent idea/concept which was successfully used by the Elite Navy SEALS for over 10 years during the Vietnam war. To accomplish this, the Stoner weapon system used fifteen different components, such as different length barrels, feed tray assemblies, buttstocks, handguard and top cover, etc. that would allow unit armorers to convert the basic platform into a fully automatic rifle, carbine, light machine gun, (both belt and box magazine fed) and into a fixed belt feed tank version. His weapon system also had several other very unique designs, such as a quick change barrel system and the feed tray and top cover which were very similar to the WWII MG42 and later M60 machine guns. This weapon system was used throughout the Vietnam war and remained in the Navy's inventory until 1982, when it was replaced by the M249 SAWS. Now fast froward 15-20 years and enter Knight's Armament Company, (KAC). This company was started in the 1970s by C. Reed Knight, a brilliant engineer who started out making conversions of various semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic Class III weapons and went on to be one of the U.S. Army's leading design companies in the early 1980s. He helped develop several innovative small arms weapon enhancements for the U.S. Army under the Land Warrior Concept; such as the Rail Intergrator System (RIS) and the Rail Adapter System (RAS) that we all see used on the M4 Carbines in Iraqi and Afghanistan today. He is also known for developing the excellent SR-25 rifle an AR15/M16 type rifle system chambered in 7.62 NATO cartridge, that was later type-classified as the M110 Sniper rifle. In the late 1970s/early 1980s, KAC was able to acquire, original Cadillac-Gage, manufactured M63A parts and assemblies, and was able to recreate and successfully produce this legendary weapon system. This weapon/lot includes two, 1-200 mm twist barrels, that will stabilize 62-77 grain bullets. It is estimated that the cyclic rate of the this weapon is approximately 650 rds per minute and is complete with two,100 rd plastic box magazines that hold the linked ammunition, an original KAC/Stoner spare barrel assembly and storage bag, various small accessories/spare parts such as take down pins, spare firing pin and small recoil springs, a reprint of an original Stoner 63 system manual, eight bags of Stoner type 4 disintegrating ammunition links and a collapsible bipod.
