Summons Mississippi territory of the United States to the Sheriff of Amite County commanding him to take into custody Julius Nichols for issuing a challenge to a duel. Dated 29th day of June, 1816, signed by Thomas Bachelor, Clerk. Very finely written by a professional secretary and names the judge Walter Leake and ends the 40th year of American Independence. The document measures approx. 7-1/2” by 12-1/4” in width. Shows folding, some small tatters, minor acid burns, but is good and clearly written.
