Nine members of the Modern Woodmen of America pose on the street in front of a railway depot. Photograph measures 8 1/4”x6”, black single matte with raised black border—wear on corners including the upper left corner is missing, and the focus is sharp. There is also a small tear on the upper left of photo and some minor scratching on the upper right. “Lunch Room” and “Railway Crossing” can be read clearly in the background. No Photographer identified. On the reverse of the matte, the location and date of the photo is written in pencil and traced over in ink. The nine MWA members are in uniform and carrying a variety of axes and a sword. The number 8753 is written on the middle of their shirts. The MWA was founded in 1883 by Joseph Cullen Root. The organization provided life insurance to members and organized elaborate drill team performances using axes. By 1910, membership totaled one million. Location and date not verified.
