First catalogue worn; other very good to fine. [with] Smith, H.P. AUCTION SALES. New York, 1882-86. Fifteen catalogues of the twenty-one issued, being Adams Nos. 2-12 and 15-18. Three are hand-priced. Generally very good to fine. Eighteen catalogues issued by Smith on his own or (early on) in partnership with H.G. Sampson. Adams, page 120: “Harlan P. Smith was a man with genuine numismatic talent. In addition, a close reading of his catalogs reveals a man with a rare sense of humor.” He would go on to establish the New York Coin & Stamp Company with David Proskey in 1888.
