Manufactured from 1878 to 1912, this is the improved design of the original Model 3, Smith & Wesson's first top break automatic ejection revolver. Ivory bead accented Lyman blade front sight and an adjustable "U" notch target rear sight, with the one line Maltese cross flanked address on the rib, "44 S.&W.CTG" on the left side and matching numbers on the latch, barrel, cylinder and butt. Fitted with a casehardened hammer and trigger guard, a sharply checkered trigger, and checkered walnut grips. The factory was known to checker triggers. A few other revolvers in this serial range were factory checkered and shipped on special order to famed target shooters of the day.
