Two handwritten poems by Stuart Sutcliffe on a double-sided 4.25 x 7.5 sheet taken from one of his circa 1955 notebooks from Prescot Grammar School, signed at the head with his surname, "Sutcliffe." Sutcliffe writes out original poems entitled "Night" and "On Death." The first begins: "Darkness looms over all, tis night / night the father of day, accursed of man, / Haven for whom, not the good, they have light." The second begins: "Lying there grey and lonely / Desolate yet bold / A bony dream of worry / Discovers death so cold." In overall fine condition, with small stains to two corners. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

Sutcliffe was a talented fellow student of John Lennon's at the Liverpool College of Art, who played the bass in the first incarnation of the Beatles. He chose his passion for painting above being a Beatle and left the group to devote himself to his art career; not long after, he died of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of twenty-one.
