Stradivarius Cremonenus 1723 Antique 3/4 Violin w/ Case
This is a reproduction of the renowned 1723 model of the Antonius Stradivarius violin. It is in very good condition overall. The label inside is marked: Antonius Stradiuarius Cremonenus, Faciebat Anno 1723. The front surface has a few small spots of wear, along one f hole, and at the top edge. The back side has some minor surface scratches. It has been refinished and is good overall. The neck appears to be straight. The peg box, pegs, fret board, and scroll look fine. Its length, not including the end peg, is 23 1/4 inches, making it a 3/4 size model. * The bow has genuine horse hair. Its length is 27 1/4". The case is old and probably original, with leather handle, metal fittings, metal bottom supports, and functioning latch. There are a few extra parts included. * Its exact age is not known, but part of its history is. According to its owner, it has been in his family since around 1870. It originally belonged to an uncle, and it got passed down to others that were Indians in Illinois. It eventually came into the hands of the current owner. He lent it to a friend who played in a philharmonic orchestra. His friend, who owns a $100,000 violin, was amazed at its strong voice, and said it plays and sounds as good as hers. * The violin was given to an expert to make minor repairs. There were a couple things that have since been fixed. The fret board was separating, which only a trained eye could notice. It needed new nuts, bridge, and a little bridge adjustment. The bow repair was a silver wire decorative wrapping, with mother of pearl, and a leather hand grip. All these parts included original German silver wire replacement. The bow has been restrung with horse tail hair, as it was originally. This violin is reflective of its former glory. * For those seeking an early Stradivarius, this is a splendid violin.
