A small storm pattern wool rug in traditional colors of red, black, natural and brown designs on a gray ground. Black border. Storm pattern rugs consist of a bordered design with the middle of the weaving representing the center of the universe. Four corner rectangles represent the 4 winds or, in some interpretations, the 4 sacred mountains of the Navajo. Lightning bolts connect these corner rectangles. The pattern originated in the western region of the reservation around Tuba City, AZ [www.rugtrader.com/styles/storm5.htm]. It measures 28 x 45.” Weaver: Rita Ben, of Chinle, AZ. In excellent condition. Fairbanks Collection - HKA#65391
