1869 - Original "Bond of the County of Storey" certificate, No. 246, issued on 15 December 1869 to the bearer for $1000 in gold coin. Signed by Geo. H. Dana, Clerk Board of County Commissioners of Storey County, and D. W. Balch, President Board of County Commissioners of Storey County. Punch cancelled across the front of the document. This bond measures 16” x 16.25”, and in its ornate frame this item measures 25” x 25”. Printer: Lith. Britton & Rey, San Francisco. Features two vignettes: a central scene resembling the Nevada State Seal; and, a small steam engine pictorial along the lower portion of the certificate. Included are 15 coupons, numbered 30-16, for $35 each and all endorsed by Balch. The bond also bears a seal and one, $1, red, R68 R6, tied, adhesive, perf U.S. Foreign Exchange stamp on front. The reverse also bears an inscription that cannot be read without removing the item from its frame and tan/brown matting. Very good condition: crisp, clean, and only bearing slight fold creasing. Balch and Dana were elected to their posts on 6 November 1866 [Ref: Thompson & West, History of Nevada, 1882, p. 606]. -61377
