Interesting Pair of Face-type small Stone Amulets that were sewn on clothes or worn in the hair. Yunnan province and E.Zhou to Han period. The left-hand example is a hardstone that does not take a good polish, but was liked for its milky translucency. The one on the right is Cremated Jade and went through the death ceremony where the smoke from the crematory fire was believed to carry the spirit directly to heaven - no waiting! Both about 7/8" in size - a great little pair from classic Chinese antiquity.
