Depiction of the Hindu god Vishnu with four arms, seated on a chariot

This relief consists of gray stone and was made in the 19th/20th century in Java, Indonesia. Shown is the Hindu god Vishnu with four arms. He is seated on a chariot and two of his hands are placed on the knees. They hold a prayer necklace as well as a vase. The other two hands are raised to the shoulders, holding lotus flowers and create visually a mandorla. A small figure of Arunadeva can be seen in front of Vishnu's feet. The deity is dress in a tight-fitting garment and a precious crown adorns his head. The stone sculpture is worked in a deep relief and shows fine details.



The relief is in good condition with slight signs of age and wear. Minimal loss of material and small nicks are visible here and there. The height measures ca. 48 cm.
