Another example of tomb art, this neat sculpture in grey hardstone is reputed to have been uneartherd in Hunan province. Dating to the Han dynasty (206BC-220AD), the Ram was an auspicious companion for the afterlife. Kingly tombs at that time often had mostly wood sculptured figures (see the kingly Muwangdui tombs in Changsha), so the person commissioning this sculpture would have been of very high rank...if not a king himself. 23-1/2" long, 12" tall, and 8-1/2" deep, one side of the body seems to have gotten abraded - with the rest of the sculpture seeming perfect. Chubby form, nice horns and an oversize tail are notable attributes. He will charm you forever.
