On third page, Moses White has written , “I hereby certify that twenty five Dollars have been paid on the within share no 991 Moses White Treasurer.” The Sixth Massachusetts Turnpike was incorporated on June 22, 1799 with the intention of construction a road from Amherst through Worcester in order to connect with another turnpike that ran through Shrewsbury. Completed during 1800, the road ran forty-three miles. Moses White, who signs our document as treasurer, was contracted to construct a portion of the west end of the Sixth Massachusetts Turnpike that ran five hundred and nineteen rods. In 1829, the entire road became free when it was laid out as a county road. Faint blind embossed seal at upper left corner. Overall Very Fine.
