Stevens New Model No. 40 Single-Shot Pocket Rifle, with matching-number skeleton shoulder stock, #30628, .22 RF cal., 10'' round-to-octagonal barrel, hooded combination bead-blade front and folding sliding-leaf rear sights, marked with maker's name and address on top flat and ser. no. at left breech, has auto extraction; iron frame has central hammer, left-side barrel release button, separate loop trigger guard, and integral gripstraps with two-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1896-1916, originally with blued barrel and trigger, case hardened hammer, nickel-plated frame, straps and shoulder stock. Condition is excellent. Barrel and trigger retain approx. 92% blue with wear at muzzle, muted case colors to hammer, 90% bright nickel showing wear and minor roughening to frame sides and bottom. Shoulder stock is in matching condition. Grips are sound and smooth with much finish remaining. Markings and edges are sharp, action is smooth, bore is brilliant with defined rifling.
