Revolver is an S&W 38 Special, 5 shot, S#149803 with 95% plus original finish. Has Sheriff Shuman engraved on it, and still has Steve’s holster with it. History: July 22, 1969, 2AM, Steve was trying to close his Moose Bar in Dillon. Some patrons would not leave so Steve unplugged to jukebox. One patron, Henry Hoerster got upset that he had just put a dime in the jukebox, so Steve went to the register and got a dime, put it on the bar. Then words were exchanged. Hoerster vaulted over the bar and struck Steve. A scuffle followed, Steve broke free, retrieved his S&W revolver and shot Hoerster 3 times, and the last shot was fatal. Steve was charged with voluntary manslaughter and served 5 years in Deer Lodge Prison. The S&W 38 Special revolver still has the original evidence tags from the trial and is signed by court recorder Myrl Erwin. Copy of part of this trial transcript goes with gun, plus a copy photo of Steve and Grace in front of “Gracie’s” store. What a piece of Montana history. Steve passed in 1995.
