This fanciful, finely detailed porringer illustrates nursery rhymes in the style of the English illustrator Randolph Caldecott (1846-86) in cartouches separated by ducks. The rhymes include Jack Sprat, Little Jack Horner, Simple Simon, Mary [Had a Little Lamb], and Tom the Piper's Son. The name JOSEPH appears in the reserve. The underplate is illustrated with characters from Old Mother Hubbard. The name JOSEPH appears in the center. Impressed with Willliam B. Kerr & Co. mark, STERLING, and a production number of 1399.
The Wm. B. Kerr & Co. was established by William B. Kerr in Newark, New Jersey in 1855. They used the trademark of a Medieval Axe from 1855 until 1892
