Victorian gentleman would wear these match vesta on a chain
kept in a pocket of their waistcoat (their pocket watch would be
in the other pocket). The hinged lid opens to reveal a
compartment to hold matches. The base as a ridged groove
where the matches would be struck to create the friction
necessary to set the match on fire. The sterling hallmarks date
its manufacture to Birmingham, England in 1907.
