ENRAGED COCKATOO, OR A CHINESE BALL IN DANGER." Stereoscopic daguerreotype by T. R. Williams. Three different variants of this image were presented in Be-hold 15 (April 1992.) Each variant is unique. In the intervening years Williams' work has become more widely recognized. The very existence of these four variants show his inventive genius, making fabulous different arrangements of objects in his studio. The title was discovered in a catalog, courtesy of Paula Fleming. As opposed to some other masters of the stereoscopic daguerreotype, such as the French Dubosc, Williams, in views like this, was less interested in creating a symbolic world than a visual tour de force of arranged objects and textures in depth. This has the original black mask and ribbed tape. Slight variation in tonality.
