Lot of 5 graduated oval examples of different sizes: 7.25”, 6.5”, 5.25”, 3.75”, and 3” tall. Tooled tops. The tallest three are embossed “Steptoe Drug Co. Inc./ Prescription Specialists/ Ely-East Ely-McGill” on the front. The two smaller bottles are embossed “Steptoe Drug Co. Inc./ Ely-East Ely-McGill” on the front. Scalloped ribbed border on shoulders. All bottoms embossed “Blue Ribbon” maker’s marks. Clear glass, all but the 7.25” bottle are faintly purple, indicating the presence of manganese in their manufacturing. Small bubble on rear of 7.25” bottle; 6.5” stained on front and interior; 5.25” very clean, one bubble on rear; 3.75” stained; 3” stained. No chips or cracks in group. The Steptoe Drug Company was a business venture by David Bartley, Frank Millard, and J. H. Messinger. They invested $4,000 to start the company on 13 February 1908, and by 1909 they had three stores in operation in Ely, East Ely, and McGill. Steptoe is the only known Nevadan drugstore to have used bottles embossed with all three locations simultaneously. - Jacobitz Collection -59604
