Stage name of Lincoln Perry, an American vaudevillian, comedian and film actor (1902-1985) who is considered to be the first black actor to have a successful film career. He became the first black actor to earn a million dollars, and was also the first black actor to receive featured screen credit in a film. Attractive glossy 8 x 10 studio portrait of Fetchit with a quizzical look, signed and inscribed in red ink, "1980, To Bob Morris, From, Stepin Fetchit, Aug. / 18 / 80.” Reverse bears ownership notations and a Fox Films stamp. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, two file holes at the top, and small bit of whiteout on the bottom edge.
