American writer (1898–1943) best known for his stories ‘The Devil and Daniel Webster’ and ‘By the Waters of Babylon’ and for the novel John Brown’s Body, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1929. ALS, one page both sides, 5.5 x 8.5, no date. Letter to a young collector. In part, “I should be delighted to send you the autograph you request—though I fear it will make a poor showing in such a remarkable and interesting collection as yours.” In fine condition, with some light show-through from writing on reverse.
