Painter and etcher (1846–1938) who was the father of Maxfield Parrish. ALS, one page, 8 x 10.25, no date but “Tuesday morning” penned along the left side. Parrish writes a letter of recommendation for a former employee, Harry Bailey. In part: “’Industrious’ he certainly is, and absolutely honest and dependable. He would still be with me (so far as I am concerned) but for his serious illness last winter…I think he is stronger than he looks. He was always very thin, but could do a full day’s work…You know by this time what are the characteristics of our Yankee people. Independence is one of them, not too much respect for persons…but I have no cause of complaint.” Intersecting folds and light wrinkling, otherwise in fine condition.
