<B>Stephen Douglas: A Rare Composition 1860 Campaign Token.</B></I> During the second half of the nineteenth century, several manufacturers experimented with hard rubber or other composition materials in lieu of metals, and this and its Lincoln mate are the earliest such varieties. Whether it was originally the case or the result of over a century of aging, these tokens are very fragile and brittle, and few have survived. Listed by Sullivan as "SD-1860-12".
