ALS in French, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.75 x 9, August 7, 1810. Lengthy untranslated letter to his sister Pauline Perier-Lagrange. Only a few days after being named an auditor with the Conseil d'Etat on August 3, 1810, Stendhal is pleased to report about his initial experience with this new position, saying he has had excellent training. Nevertheless he deplores his own financial situation by mentioning his continuing dependency on fatherly support. In fine condition, with paper loss from seal removal affecting a couple words on the last page and light show-through from writing to opposing sides. A rare and very desirable French literary autograph from the early stages of his career.
