Stembridge Gun Rentals made movie prop Kentucky Rifle from Hollywood's Golden Age. Utilized antique parts with breech loading “trapdoor” style mechanism. Approx 56” overall and .50 caliber plus rifle. Made to fire B.P. Blanks. Stembridge rented and fabricated arms for motion pictures and was backed by Cecil B. DeMille to supply his epic films. Stembridge operated on the Paramount Studio's lot for approx 50 years. Several Kentucky rifles such as this were made for the “Fighting Kentuckian” starring John Wayne and “Unconquered” starring Gary Cooper among dozens of other classics. May be possible to identify from stills but no record exist. Sold by Little Johns in the Stembridge Armory Auction for Robert I. Petersen Estate years ago . Est.: $600 - $1200.
