This black and white photograph by Stefan Moses from 1968 depicts the German artist of the Fluxus movement, Joseph Beuys, in front of his installation artwork ‘Hirschjagd’. The photographer Stefan Moses is known for his photo essays of prominent contemporaries.

The photograph is next to remains of a former glue mount verso at one edge and fine abrasion at the left upper edge in good condition. The image size is 23 x 20.2 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 28 x 22 cm.



Stefan Moses (b. 1928)

Stefan Moses was raised in Breslau and began in 1943 to train as a photographer at Grete Bodlée in Liegnitz. His training was interrupted by a compulsory internment into a labor camp in Ostlinde. In 1945/46, he was able to continue his training at the photographer in Erfurt. Afterwards he started working as a theatre photographer at the Nationaltheater in Weimar. In 1950, he moved to Munich, where he worked as a free photo journalist and received first recognition for his reportages forStern, Magnum and Revue magazines. Various Germany-wide exhibitions have honored his work. He was awarded with the Kulturelle Ehrenpreis of Munich and the Lovis-Corinth-Prize. He is a member of the Bayerischen Akademie der Schönen Künste and carries the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. (tm)
