Stebbings Automatic Rollfilm Camera, 18
Stebbing's "Automatic" Rollfilm Camera, 1883 Professor E. Stebbing, Paris. Serial number 2 (!) with achromatical lens. The first camera with a built-in rollfilm holder was presented by Professor Stebbing at the Société Française de Photographie on 3 August, 1883. This "automatic" camera had two built-in rollers, which carried one up to two yards of sensitized paper or special stripping film, developed and patented by Stebbing. The wind-on roller had a ratchet catch which gave a acoustic signal, once the film was transported sufficiently for further exposure. An adjustable screw, located at the reverse side of the camera, pressed the film before exposure against a glass plate. At the same time, the film was perforated by the pressure plate to mark the position of each single exposure. The picture size: 2,25 x 2,9 in. Dry plates could also be used in separate plate holders. - Literature: Michel Auer, "Kameras gestern und heute", p. 134, which shows serial no. 3 (!). - The oldest rollfilm camera in the world!<Br>
Rollfilm-Kamera Stebbing's "Automatic", 1883 Professeur E. Stebbing, Paris.
