1863 The steamship "Brother Jonathon" was one of the important California shipwrecks that produced gold coins. It was launched in November of 1850, and began regular routes from New York to Chagres, Panama. In the 1860's the ship was moved to the Pacific sailing between Los Angeles and Portland to take advantage of the strong shipping market. The freight receipt here is dated June 11, 1863. It features a vignette of the ship, and measures approx. 8"x 8", and is in very good condition, showing some spotting on the reverse side. The Brother Jonathon wrecked off the coast Crescent City, CA on July 30, 1865. For the collector of Brother Jonathon coins, this item could ultimately add to their collection. - HKA#66125
