Uncancelled. No stamp at left. “Sierra District, Humboldt County, N.T” Vignette of a steamboat. The Sierra District is west of Unionville is on the north end of the east range near the Humboldt River, about ten miles NE of Mill City. Dun Glen was the mining camp in the center of the district, and it received much attention in the 1863-5 period, even though it had only one mill. The Humboldt Canal was built to bring water to the district, but that enterprise did not last long. Mining at Dun Glen was successful for decades. Today it is located in Pershing County. William Bliss was a mining stock broker in San Francisco. This Bliss is not mentioned in Bill Bliss’ “Tahoe Heritage”. Sam Clemens worked in Humboldt out of Unionville and Star City, but never mentioned the Sierra District or Dun Glen. -62263
