Author, artist, and engineer (1838–1915) who built the foundation for the Statue of Liberty. ALS signed “F. Hopkinson Smith,” one page, 4.25 x 6.75, February 4, [1892, annotated in Winter's hand on the envelope]. Handwritten letter to American dramatic critic and author William Winter, in full: "If it comes in your way may I ask a good word from you for our Readings at Daly's Theatre commencing next Tuesday? Page is a delightful fellow and a delightful reader and we are trying to bring to the ears of those living North something of the sweetness of the life of the old regime of the South—given in the dialect, which of course we both speak." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Smith's hand and annotated by Winter.
