State of Texas, County of Travis, Oath of Office for John N. Sowell, swearing to discharge the duties of constable precinct #5, county of Travis. It mentions he has not fought a duel with deadly weapons in the state or out of it, and has not accepted a challenge to fight with deadly weapons. And further states he has not assisted as a second in a duel. Signed February 1847 to S. Cummings, Chief Justice. John became a Texas Ranger in 1839 and probably served with the likes of Ben McCullough and Capt. Jack Hayes, Bigfoot Wallace, and Robert Hall. An important Texas document. From the William R. Little John's will pay for packing and materials. Buyer pays actual costs of shipping and insurance. All International purchases will be sent to an exporter for shipment to foreign countries.
