This is a wonderful old Centennial Medal with a ribbon commemorating the completion of the Erie Canal in 1825. The front of the medal has "State of New York" on the bar atop the Medal. The ribbon has slipped from the top NY pin as the stitching has come undone. The medal itself reads "Centennial 1825-1926 Gov. Dewitt Clinton-Gov. Alfred E. Smith (and) Opening of the original Erie Canal" at the bottom. The reverse reads "Commissioners George Clinton Chairman-William J. Roche, Henry Maskowitz, William J. Nickey, Thomas C. Brown, Perley A. Pitcher, Victor C. lewis, Wallace R. Sustin, John J. Howard, Alfred A. O'neill Secty. Francis Dulin Asst Secty". This is a very nice piece of New York History.
