Fine $5 State of Louisiana Constitutional Bond issued April 10, 1880, 17.5 x 16.25, with 40 coupons intact. Carrying a rate of 4%, the bond boasts nice vignettes of allegorical figures and steamboats, and is signed in ink by Acting Governor Samuel D. McEnery and State Treasurer Edward A. Burke. The gold foil seal affixed at lower left remains intact. Attractively double-matted and framed to an overall size of 25 x 24. In fine condition.

McEnery (1837-1910) would serve as Louisiana's governor from 1881 to 1888, and was subsequently a US senator from 1897 until 1910. Burke (1839-1928) served as Louisiana's treasurer from 1878 to 1888, when he fled to Honduras upon the discovery that he had misappropriated state treasury funds.
