This is an example of one of approximately 20,600 percussion carbines manufactured by Starr Arms Company of Yonkers, New York circa 1862 to 1865. The lock is marked "STARR ARMS CO./YONKERS, N.Y." and the upper tang is marked "STARRS PATENT/SEPT. 14TH 1858" directly behind the loading port. The top of the barrel in front of the rear sight is marked "STARR ARMS CO YONKERS N.Y.". The left side of the rear sight base and the lower tang are marked with the letter "B". Fixed front and two leaf rear sights, saddle ring and staple mounted on the left rear of receiver, and iron single barrel band. The barrel and lower tang were blue, with casehardened finish on the remaining parts and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock.

Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth brown patina. The wood is also good with a few minor gouges, and some minor dents and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
