Star Trek The Motion Picture Prototype Limited Edition SFX Crew Jacket
The pressures on cast and crew for "Star Trek" The Motion Picture" (1979) were enormous. This was Roddenberry's attempt to bring back his beloved characters on the big screen, and hopefully re-ignite his creation. However this was a transitional time between old style special effects and the very beginning of crude computer generate effects. Legendary director Robert Wise was brought in to helm the production, and several effects company's were utilized, some to disastrous results. However in the end, they finally did get what they wanted. The film wasn't a massive hit, but did well enough that two years later, with Harve Bennett in charge of production, and effects having found its feet, Star Trek took off, and continues to soar to this day. To thank the special effects crew for their efforts on "The Motion Picture" Leonard Nimoy convinced Paramount to pay for special SFX crew jackets. He employed one of the top designers in Los Angeles to create a special jacket. This is the actual prototype jacket that was hand tailored and embroidered in silk-satin for Nimoy's approval. This is a one-and-only. No other jacket of this kind was ever made. Nimoy made some changes, and added others, and a final version of fifty Limited Edition jackets were created. This extremely rare Star Trek collectable comes with a Letter of Provenience from the actual manufacture and designer of this jacket.
