Star Spangled Comics #44 San Francisco pedigree (DC, 19
Star Spangled Comics #44 San Francisco pedigree (DC, 1945) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages. This is a beautiful book, so we were a bit nonplused that two copies could possibly be graded higher than this San Francisco copy, and a bit befuddled by the conservative grade as well. Reaching for our microscopes, we then finally noticed an almost imperceptible black-on-black ball-point pen circle around the cover date that presumably accounted for the modest grade. But when you factor in the page quality, the pedigree, and the overall look of this black-cover issue, we find it hard to believe there's a more attractive copy out there. The cover bears the signature ""Simon and Kirby,"" though Overstreet notes, ""Most all issues after #29 signed by Simon & Kirby are not by them."" Some point to Gil Kane as the actual artist. Of course, S&K's creation, the Newsboy Legion, was the stars of the book. Overstreet 2005 VF/NM 9.0 value = $494; NM- 9.2 value = $665. CGC census 6/05: 1 in 9.0, 2 higher.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we
