A Graphic account of the several expeditions of Henry M. Stanley into the heart of the dark continent. Covering Stanley's expedition to find Livingstone, his crossing the continent and exploration of the Congo from its headwaters to the ocean, his establishment of the Congo Free State, and his last great achievement, the discovery and deliverance of Emin Pasha. Joel Tyler Headley was an American clergyman, historian, author, newspaper editor, adventurer and politician who served as Secretary of State of New York. He turned to history writing, producing many works on various subjects. Willis Fletcher Johnson, was an author, journalist, and lecturer who had a twenty-year tenure as the foreign and diplomatic editorial writer for The New York Tribune. This green cloth gold gilt stamped hardcover is in fair condition, floral motif on cover, gold gilt exhibits fading, scuffing noted to cover edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing.
