Distinguished American architect (1853–1906) who was a leading figure of the ‘Beaux Arts’ movement, best known for his opulent mansions and for the second Madison Square Garden. He was fatally shot and killed in the roof garden theatre of the Landmark by the husband of actress Evelyn Nesbit in retribution for a long-ago affair. LS, one page, 5.25 x 8.25, McKim, Mead & White Architects letterhead, November 13, 1890. Letter to a gentleman. In full: “As soon as we have got the West Point Monument in its final shape, I shall be very happy to send you a drawing of it.” In very good condition, with irregular toning to borders and numerous stray ink blots to the top.
