Stand by the Boys in the Trenches (Lot of 3) Stand by the Boys in the Trenches
Stand by the Boys in the Trenches (Lot of 2) 19"x13" Artist: Walter Whitehead. Another poster in the "strike a pose" family of posters. This one features a coal miner, standing with his pick ready and coal lumps at his feet. Next to him is a soldier standing in the same pose with his rifle brandished and barbed wire fence behind him. This poster simply states that workers should mine and labor just as hard as the soldiers overseas. Coal mining was spurred feverishly forward during WWI since it was such a useful fuel for everything from homes to ships. The Fuel Administration produced many spirited and colorful posters which asked Americans to mine more coal and use their coal more efficiently; even going as far as to post instructions on posters on how to fire coal successfully. This poster is just one of the pantheon of coal posters, and must not be left out of any serious collection. <r<r Condition-Poster 1-Good; several major tears on upper edge, dirt stains and residue on lower edge, corners are slightly worn. <r<r Poster 2- Good; right edge is severely torn and mangled, paper is very brittle, corners wrinkled and dirty.
