Contract, signed “Stanley F. Musial,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 11, January 25, 1961. National League uniform player's contract in which Stan Musial agrees to render "skilled services as a baseball player during the year 1961" for the St. Louis Cardinals, for a salary of $60,000. A two-article rider is attached, promising to pay an additional $18,000 annually during Musial's retirement in exchange for public appearances. Signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Stan Musial, National League President Warren Giles, and St. Louis General Manager Vaughan 'Bing' Devine. In fine condition, with light areas of toning from adhesive on the rider. Despite speculation that he would retire, the 40-year-old Musial returned to the Cardinals in 1961 for his twentieth season in the big leagues; he finished the year with a respectable .288 batting average and made his eighteenth consecutive All-Star team.
