Agreement between Hal Roach Studios and Stan Laurel regarding the distribution of Laurel and Hardy pictures in the foreign market. “This will serve to confirm our understanding relative to the distribution of Laurel and Hardy pictures solely in the foreign market. The thought was expressed that four reel length would not render itself for most advantageous distribution in countries other than the United States, and we are therefore agreed that our agreement shall be changed and modified to the extent that, upon the completion of each of the four-reelers to be made under the contract of April 8, 1939 in each of said four reelers may be included such surplus material as had been already photographed for the particular photoplay for the purpose of extending the picture to five reels in lieu of such four reels.” Nicely signed at the conclusion by Laurel. Several creases and wrinkles, staple hole to top left, and pencil notation to top right, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a glossy 8 x 10 photo of an April 8, 1939 letter from Hal Roach Studios to Oliver Hardy concerning his contract and an amendment to it concerning lay-offs; and an unsigned carbon letter on Hal Roach Studios stationery dated December 39, 1939 to Hardy from studio Vice President Frank Ross.
