By Act of Congress in 1864, a tax was levied on the sale of luxury items to raise wartime revenue for the Union. The denomination of the stamp was proportioned to the cost of the item. For sale is two photo cards with a cancelled 3-cent stamp on the reverse side. A descriptive history is given with the photos. Each photo sells for $25 - you may just buy one, using one of the reference numbers, or both, using both numbers. A real find.
