Stage Fright (Warner Brothers, 1950). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14"). Alfred Hitchcock inserted self-reflexive moments in all of his films, most famously in his trademark cameos, and he comments on the processes of both making and watching films in diverse fare like "Rebecca," "Rear Window" and "Psycho." He takes to the London stage for his most elaborate treatment of the subject, with Marlene Dietrich as a catty actress and the theater's backstage as a background for murder. The opening flashback even daringly suggests that viewers cannot trust everything presented to them onscreen, and this upheaval of the supposed reliability of the filmmaker reportedly enraged audiences. The lobby cards are printed in the deep and dramatic colors of the theater, with particularly stunning reds and greens. The first two cards have tape marks and wear on the left and bottom edges, but the other six cards appear to be almost unused. Aside from the eighth card, there's nary even a pinhole. Very Fine+.
