A charming 19th-century Staffordshire pottery inkwell modeled as a recumbent greyhound. The lean hound is portrayed lying gracefully on a deep cobalt blue cushion with molded tassel details, one paw tucked and the other outstretched. Its creamy white coat is accented with delicate grey and black brushwork to the muzzle and ears. The molded base incorporates a single inkwell opening with a raised pen rest at center, likely once fitted with a liner (now lacking). Unglazed base with age-consistent wear. In good condition overall, with minor glaze irregularities and light crazing typical of period Staffordshire. An appealing and unusual example that reflects the Victorian affection for canine subjects, particularly greyhounds - favored symbols of loyalty, grace, and speed.
