I am featuring a Staffordshire Fairing. Fairings are brightly colored, small porcelain objects that were made in molds in Germany and Bohemia and painted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Originally sold at fairs as souvenir pieces. This fairing has the Staffordshire Crest on the front with the words:"Domine Dirige Nos", on a yellow banner under the crest. Under this yellow banner in black letters: City of London. This is a three footed, three handled, urn shaped fairing. It was used to hold toothpicks. The bottom has a green stamp with a Crown and Shield and the word GEMMA inside the shield. Measurements are: 2 inches high and the opening is: 1 5/8 inches wide.
