St. Vincent de Paul Autograph Letter Signed.
St. Vincent de Paul Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 4.25” x 6.5”, in French, Paris, February 27, 1659. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) was born to a peasant family in Gascony and graduated in theology at Toulouse, where he was ordained in 1660. After traveling to Marseille to collect an inheritance, he was captured by Turkish pirates, who sold him into slavery at Tunis. Undaunted, he converted his owner to Christianity and was freed in 1607! He devoted his life to charitable causes, founding the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity and the Lazarists. In 1705, the Superior-General of the Lazarists requested sainthood for de Paul. Thirty-two years later, he finally was canonized by Pope Clement XII. In the letter, de Paul writes to a male acquaintance inquiring about the well-being of an associate. The letter also includes a 3” x 6.5” (originally folded over) leaf containing the address of the recipient and an intact paper seal, and has been beautifully matted and framed with a “St Vincent de P” medallion to a size of 18.5” x 22.5” The letter is in very good condition with folds and minor soiling; there were some scattered small holes in the middle of the page that were archivally repaired.

Shipping: Framed - with Glass, Medium (view shipping information)
