Scarce commemorative gold medallion issued for the St. Moritz 1948 Winter Olympics. Gold (22k), 32 mm, 27 gm, designed by Emil Wiederkehr (Bern mint). The front features a nude male torchbearer on one knee below raised text: “Citius Altius Fortius”; and the reverse shows the Olympic rings against a sprig of laurel, with encircling text: “V Es Jeux Olympiques D'hiver St. Moritz 1948.” A decidedly lustrous and uncommon medallion from the 5th Winter Games.
