St. Louis Halfstock Percussion Plains Rifle, by P. Powell, .40 cal., 36'' medium-weight octagonal barrel, blue lockplate and hammer, brown barrel, brass buttplate, triggerguard and wedge escutcheons; adjustable double set trigger, with walnut halfstock and hickory ramrod. Top of barrel marked ''P. Powel, Maker''; lockplate and hammer are lightly roll decorated, as is common with tradelocks from this period. Powell started in Cincinnati and moved to St. Louis in the 1850s. Condition is very good with moderate overall patination and nicks and scuffs to barrel. Barrel shows light impressions to one diagonal flat from vice. Halfstock with fractures emanating from forward portion of left side wedge escutcheon. Good functioning triggers. Nice crown and good bore that should clean. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
