St. Louis G.A.R. Button with Gov. Hadley
St. Louis G.A.R. Button Featuring Missouri Governor Hadley. A very large 4" pinback button, circa 1909, offering up St. Louis as the ideal site for the Grand Army of the Republic's 1910 National Encampment. The front shows a G.A.R. medal above the city's equestrian statue of Louis IX. These are flanked by portraits of Governor Hadley of Missouri and Mayor Kreismann of St. Louis. The button's back carries two labels. The first one names the manufacturer as Steiner Engraving & Badge Co. of St. Louis; the second one carries a label reading, "The citizens of St. Louis, through the Conventions Bureau of the Business Men's League, Invite You To Hold Your National Encampment 1910, in our city." Light soiling on the back labels, good front surfaces. Extra fine condition, and most unusual.
